Thoughts and Prayers
Monday 06-30-2008 6:09pm ET
Michael Curry's dad, James Curry, passed away this past weekend. I had a chance to meet James numerous times while doing postgame shows and it is a sad day. He was such a supporter of his son and was fun to talk to. James also loved the Dallas Cowboys. We send our best to the Currys. MD

Draft Night Recap
Friday 06-27-2008 6:40am ET
The following was released this evening by the Pistons:
PISTONS ACQUIRE DRAFT RIGHTS TO 32ND PICK WALTER SHARPE AND THE 46TH PICK TRENT PLAISTED FROM SEATTLE IN EXCHANGE FOR THE DRAFT RIGHTS TO #29 D.J. WHITE Pistons Select Deron Washington With 59th Pick In 2008 NBA Draft
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Pistons announced today that during the 2008 NBA Draft, the club acquired the draft rights to the Walter Sharpe (#32 overall) and Trent Plaisted (#46 overall) from Seattle in exchange for the draft rights to DJ White (#29 overall). The team also selected Deron Washington with the 59th pick in the second round.
"Walter is a very talented and skilled small forward that we really like," said Joe Dumars, Pistons President of Basketball Operations. "We saw an opportunity to get him in the second round and also add another pick, so that is why we decided to make a move out of the first round. We also like both Trent Plaisted and Deron Washington and look forward to seeing how they fit with our future plans."
Sharpe, a 6-9, 245-pound forward from the University of Alabama Birmingham, played 12 games last season averaging 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks. He shot 52% from the field and had a career game against University of Rhode Island when he recorded career-highs in points (26) and rebounds (17). Sharpe averaged 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds during the 2005-06 season for Mississippi State and sat out the 2006-07 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Plaisted, a senior from Brigham Young University, averaged a career-high 15.6 points and 7.7 rebounds. After averaging 0.6 points as a freshman in five games (sat out rest of season due to a knee injury), Plaisted averaged 13.6 points as a sophomore and 12.6 as a junior. He earned First Team All-Mountain West Conference honors as a junior and was also named 2006 MWC Freshman of the Year.
Washington averaged 13.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 35 games for the Virginia Tech Hokies last season. The 6-7 New Orleans native finished his college career shooting 47% (503-1,076) from the field and shot over 46% from the field in three of his four seasons.

The Pistons had the 29th pick in the first round of the 2008 NBA Draft. Detroit selected 6-9 250 lb forward D-J White from Indiana. White then went to the Sonics and the Pistons' received Seattle's 32nd and 46th overall picks. Seattle then took U-A-B's Walter Sharp, who will in turn come to Motown. Sharp is a 6-9 245 pound sophmore who transferred from Mississippi State in 2006.
DJ White to the Pistons with the 29th pick (rp)
Thursday 06-26-2008 10:37pm ET
The Pistons used the 29th pick in the first round to take Indiana forward D-J White. According to ESPN's Chad Ford, Detroit is selecting White for the Seattle Supersonics, a Pistons source told me. The Pistons will get two of the Sonics' second-rounders -- the 32nd and 46th picks. This is a very solid pick for the Sonics. White is a excellent rebounder and a good low post scorer. He's also young for a senior. He helps the Sonics get tougher up front.
